Best wedding photographs of 2014

I don’t know that I’ve ever done a “best of” before, but I’m feeling moved to do so this year.  I always have a few images from every wedding I photograph, and usually my favorites are not the same as the ones the bride and groom like best. Go figure!  But these are the ones I like, I hope you enjoy them too!

Venues include Blue Angel Cafe, Edgewood Tahoe, Zephyr Cove, Valhalla, Logan Shoals Vista Point, Tahoe Beach Retreat, Round Hill Pines, Incline Village, Carson Valley, Regan Beach

This is called a "scene shot" and I love getting shots like this! One of these days I will do a blog post filled with nothing but scene shots.

Sometimes black and white just does it for me. How about you? By the way, this shot was created with a strong light at camera right, bounced off an umbrella. "Available" light would have put this couple in shadow, and flash on camera would have blocked all the details in the bride

I love the light patterns in this shot. Technically, not the easiest shot to get. Just a "kiss" of light to help illuminate the bride and groom and stop the action of the slow shutter speed, which was needed to allow the background to show up Valhalla.

No one got wet in the making of this shot, although the bride and groom did have to climb a bit. Zephyr Cove, at the north end of the beach

A really nice sunset shot, taken at Logan Shoals Vista Point.

A similar shot in color. I love the waves, the wind in her gown, just the entire mood of this shot.

I’m a horse person, so when one of my friends who is also a horse person gets married, the horse usually gets prime billing in the wedding. This is Toby. He was a very good boy, he didn’t even try to eat the flowers!  Carson Valley

This technically isn’t a wedding photo, but an engagement shot. Special request of the bride, who is a rock climber.

I love the expression on her face!

This couple hired me for an extra hour to go and play with them. We did beach photos, photos at the hotel, and photos here, at the pier at the Tahoe Beach Retreat. I painted this image, to give it a sort of an impressionist look.

This is what is called an outtake. On the day of the wedding, it rained. And rained. And rained. The bride and groom elected to keep their wedding outdoors anyway, and brought lots of umbrellas. This was some of the family gathering for a family photo. I love it!
